These components can achieve energy efficiency by using the same amount of water as in previous models.

Instead of generating energy from fossil fuels, several data centers are substituting it with renewable energy sources such as hydro, wind, or solar. Additionally, companies in order to minimize energy loss during transmission are building their data centers near sources that generate renewable energy.

Companies that are aggressively promoting energy-efficient data centers are trying to develop new data centers around cooler climates, such as Canada or Scandinavia, to reduce cooling issues.

Here, instead of using energy-intensive compressors to cool the data centers, they employ a free air-cooling methodology. It takes the air from outside to cool the servers.

Companies are using artificial intelligence to achieve optimization while using energy. AI can monitor power distribution, temperatures, and workloads. For example, Google DeepMind with the help of AI was able to minimize energy consumption in the cooling systems by around 40%.

Amidst these challenges, companies are taking various measures to push for sustainability. Among them, switching to energy-efficient data centers is prominent. They also help businesses curtail additional costs that otherwise rise due to energy use.
